Last Minute Campervan Trip from Munich...Advice Please!

    Hi folks. I am in a bit of a pickle at the moment. The wife and I booked return flights to Munich earlier this week with a plan to rent a campervan for 2 weeks...naively I thought this would not be a problem. However, it is peak season and I am struggling to find a camper for our dates (7th Aug to 21st Aug).

    I tried Indie Campers, Motorhome Republic, McRent and some others but they all get back saying that what I want to book is not available. Some give me alternatives but either the dates are not suitable or the van isn't what we want. Would anyone have any other places that I could try please? Perhaps there are smaller places on the ground that don't really advertise or something. Anyway, any help would be greatly recieved.

    You need to change your expectations on the van you thought you could hire at short notice during peak season I think.

    I’d say think about what your absolute baseline needs are and take what’s available. The number of berths is probably the most compelling in that regard, and see anything more as a bonus. As you are just two it should work for all the available vans you can hire. We’re in France at the end of a long stay abroad at the moment, surrounded by hired vans in every Aire we visit. I see a lot of rental German vans here as well as in Spain a while back. You have options available still so that is good. I’d get what’s available before they disappear and make the best of it. Maybe you need to take a bigger van than you need or something smaller than you’d like. In the end the best part of a motorhome holiday IMHO should take place outside then van. I consider our MH an enabler rather than an end in itself. Once you have someplace to sleep and sit then you are sorted. Probably more important where you go to rather than what you travel in. Just my opinion. Don’t know what your prior experience is or expectations are. Hope it works out for you.

    another option may have been renting direct from Mercedes

    They have a surprising amount of availability next week till the 21st BUT their system seems to only work for dates beyond 7 days out, unless everyone is renting till next thurday for some mad reason . If you had have looked back on the 28th there may have been availability showing up from the 7th.
