If you fly a drone in Ireland that weighs more than 250 grams or has a camera or sensor, then you must register as a drone operator with the Irish Aviation Authority.

Even if your drone weighs less than 250 grams, you must register if it has a camera or sensor unless it complies with the ‘toy’ directive.

You do not need to register if the unmanned aircraft is considered to be a toy within the meaning of Directive 2009/48/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the safety of toys [Directive 2009/48/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 June 2009 on the safety of toys]. The unmanned aircraft manufacturer’s user manual will state if it is a toy.
