Having suffered flies a few weeks back in Monahan area, they were the same a last week's Boards outing in Glasson and Tullamore.

But yesterday!!!! Up north in Rockmount and Spa and lads, it was crazy, there were visible clouds of flies and flying ants around each player once near water or in a balmy tee box/green, only the wind helped and that died down in the afternoon so it was a nightmare.

Putting and driving with ants crawling over you was a new challenge to me and I was literally holding my breath at times, running to take a putt and running away again, clothes were covered in ants and we needed towels to clear them off.

Not sure much to be done, the lads in white seemed to have more ants that those in darker colours and I was dosed in DEET and not massively less invaded than others but I thought it helped a bit

Are you ready for flying ant season? (rte.ie)

I was driving along on Tuesday and wondered what all those little bugs were. Stopped at a traffic light, my windscreen filled up with them and realised they were flying ants. Instantly cancelled my round that evening. Hate the things. Luckily you only see them a few days a year.

Played Macreddin not too long ago and the horseflies were all over us. Bites were sore the next day. It's Summer so I suppose you just have to take it to play golf in nicer weather.

We have horseflies in our place. Nasty things. Mosquitos get in and have an aesthetic in the saliva so you don't feel them having a meal it until it gets itchy later. Horseflys (female) have a razor sharp mouth piece which they just slice you open with no aesthetic so they can try drink away.

How descriptive! I love the heat and balmy weather so will just have to go with it

Nice of you to make sure to put the female distinction in there. 🤣
