Heatpac Firebird 90 - not firing Was fine before being idle the last few weeks

It was working fine the last time I used it a few weeks ago, when I tried it last week it would not start. I have about a quarter tank of oil so I thought perhaps its an air lock.

I loosened the nut circled in red plastic on the right hand side, then loosened the the nut at the back. Usually what needs doing to blead it. However it is a long time since I bled it. When I loosen the other nut (not the one in red) I am getting water, is that right? I thought it should be oil so I drained a bucket but it is still water.

When I pressed reset it has power, hums, tries to fire but doesn't quite manage it.

    Thanks in advance

Pictures added, the oil initially coming out of the allan key nut (surrounded by the red plastic casing) it was quite dirty but now it is clean.

The boiler though still won't start.

I only had to bleed it once before and water did come from it but the plumber said it would have been because the oil ran out, there would be water at the bottom of the tank from condensation over time... its there 16 years...

I didn't run out of oil, I assumed the water sank to the bottom perhaps the heat / lack of use? The tank doesn't seem to have water when I dipped it far as I could tell so maybe its just the pipe from the tank about 30ft to the boiler or I am barking up the wrong tree altogether!

Any assistance / advice / ideas greatly appreciated :)

Looks to be water in the oil supply to the burner.

Water is heavier than kerosene and will naturally accumulate at the bottom of the oil tank.

You won’t see water when you dip the tank unless you are using special water finding paste, but the presence of water when bleeding the pump is a giveaway.

This water needs to be pumped out using a tube dropped to the bottom of the tank. It would also be wise to replace the oil pump and nozzle at the burner as these will have been damaged.

How is the water getting into your oil tank, check if lid/filler cap is missing & check tank for cracks etc.
