Unhappy with Patio - some help needed

    Hi all

Wondering if anyone could provide some input. Hired a company to lay a Porecelain Patio ( checked reference etc before going ahead)

We are really disappointed in how the tiles have been laid - looks like no spacers have been used so the gap between the tiles in each row vary and the space been a tiles and the next tile can be bigger on one end than the other. There is 1 or 2 tiles that looks bowed up at the edge .

Have called them and let them know and they are due back tomorrow to discuss as grouting isnt done yet.

Just wondering am I being too picky ? if you stand back rather than look closely it looks good as the lines between each row are straight from side to side and back to front ....

What can be done here as assume there is no easy fix. We saved hard for this patio and im just really disappointed 😔

Poor work. I wouldn't pay for that.

You'll never unsee those gaps. Not sure what resolution can be expected though.

Do you want it relaid or would a discount suffice?

I'd like it done properly but now they are laid assume they would need to be all ripped back up ?

Why can't people do things right :(

Fcek sake! I presume spacers should have been used alright but it would be good to get the opinion of a tiler here as they may spot other issues or suggest you check other aspects of the work (e.g. coverage under the tiles etc). I'd be telling the crowd who did the work anyway that "a friend's tiler saw some pics of it and said that the tiles look to have been put down poorly" as opposed to it seeming like you're being a fussy and awkward customer, and that you're the problem.

Assume it is going to be tough to pull up the offending tiles and leave the others ?

What is the likely hood of him making this right. I don't want money off rather get the job that I thought I'd paid for

this unfortunately, seems to be a common issue being flagged by Boardies

An awful lot of cowboys out there.

I wish you luck trying to get them to fix it.

I did a better job myself. It was my first time and my attention to details isn’t always the best.

I would look a significant discount.

It will always annoy you looking at it.

The side edge is chipped off one of those tiles in first picture too.

Have you many spare tiles as some will break when they are being lifted.

I've a few spares available , hopefully it's resolved soon.. already annoying me looking at them !

Delighted they have agreed to re-do it for you. From the photos you posted, it was a really shabby job! The lines and uneven spaces would drive me nuts. It would be all I could see. Fingers crossed for you

Yeah I’d never settle for a discount for such work- these are permanent flaws and it will drive you round the bend every time you walk out to see them.

Great it’s been done again- it sounds like the person who owns the company has credibility but the workers he pays to do the job, don’t?

Fair play also for spotting this in time and raising it - should have been better supervised.

I had a fantastic tiler last year- great quality work- wasn’t cheap but it’s done to a high standard- it’s such a pity that after your diligence in choosing what you felt were reputable people that you had to complain- but the main thing is it’s being sorted

I don't really get why they'd not use spacers other than incompetence, it's not like it takes any more time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,370 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

it takes more time than just firing them on the ground by eye, but so does back buttering, taking the time to figure out the best layout etc

basically the time it takes to do things properly!

    Hi all

They are half the way through and it's miles better.

He's been sound to deal with no issue holding hand up and making right.

Was he able to pull up the existing tiles ? Was there not stuff stuck to them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭Ropo

It was a big old job removing everything from the back of the tiles and getting the base level again.
