Electric ireland closing bill?

    We recently moved from Electric Ireland Pay As You Go electricity and have now recieved a bill, why?

    Simple explanation, PAYG doesn't exactly quantify the amount of electricity used. For example, lets say you used 2000kW in a 2 month period. The PAYG meter may have worked out at 1800KW meaning you underpaid and owe the balance. Similarly if you paid 2200kW you would have overpaid and would be entitled to the money back.


    PAYG are not sophisticated enough to know the exact usage. When you close your account (ie when you moved from EI), the actual meter reading is taken. From there the accurate calculation is made.


    More general advise, don't use PAYG - works out more expensive. Can make a weekly payment on your bill (least with EI). Essentially the Top Up, pay directly to your bill and your balance should be quite reasonable at the end of the billing period.
