Dealers with way above average prices

Has anyone noticed some main dealers (and it seems to be ones outside Dublin) selling used cars way above average (even way above the standard main franchise premium).

Noticed a particular bmw dealer outside Dublin has a huge premium on their prices. Just curious as to how it works for them. Do they give customers a huge trade in? Or are some people that dumb when it comes to handing over money? Can’t understand how they operate particularly when their contemporaries are much more competitive on price, never-mind regular used car garages.

They may simply have a good name locally and have no trouble selling, or they may have good finance offers which attract people.

Bit of psychology going on there too.

Take two absolutely identical second hand cars. People will generally believe that the more expensive one is better in some way or another.

I was thinking that alright. Was searching recently and cars from these garages were consistently the most expensive. Nothing special either in terms of spec and many had high mileage. Must be getting by on name or something. Doesn’t make sense to me as the car itself factors most into my decision. Dealer would be secondary unless major red flags.

Advertising prices and selling prices are two different things. You don’t know how much these cars are actually selling for.

A garage which seems to be €2/€3k cheaper may have a no haggle policy whereas the more expensive garage my be open to offers.

I think its people paying the prices rather then dealers looking for it.
