Hi all. My parents in law have a small plot of land (circa 3 acres) in Wicklow and we would like to plant some native Irish trees (won't be commercial). I've already planted some oak, horse chestnut, beech and birch in a small area. Before I go any further i'd love to do some basic forestry research and plan what to plant and where to plant them etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction, maybe recommend good websites good books etc about forestry?

    Regards,

Martin Crawford has a book on creating a forest garden, which might be worth reading.

I think 3 acres would qualify for the forestry grants, whenever it gets up and running again. A native woodland of 3 acres would return €15000 over 15 yrs,. I think.

Thanks for the above. I've watched some of his videos and he seems to cater for those looking to grow more of a useful garden than a forest. I'm just looking for advice on native tree planting. Has anyone else anymore suggestions?
