Diseased tree!?

    Evening all. I've just bought a second hand house and I'm trying the tidy the garden a bit. We have what I think is a holly tree? See pics... I'm not huge into gardening but hoping that will change.

    Anyway, the tree is littered with leaves with a white chalky substance on them. Some of the branches further in are also covered in a black substance. Any idea what it is and if the tree can be saved?
