    Hi folks,

gotten some great advice here before so im back again,

My wife has these mirrors, she didnt want the chain on the back of them just wanted them flush on the wall so i took them out (held on with a rivet type connection) and tried hanging the mirrors with command strips.

Unfortunately the command strips work for a time but fail eventually as the backing is suede basically and eventually they come off.

Have tried to screw in some hooks to put a string across the back but the card backing doesnt grip will enough,

any clever idea im not considering?

back looks like this, the tape is covering the holes where the original fixing was removed.

First off I've never used command strips but would never rely on something like that to mount a mirror, especially on that type of backing board. To get the look you want you are probably looking at using french cleats or flush mounting plates, which will need to be glued to the back with a good adhesive, either impact adhesive or an epoxy. Check out Screwfix for the flush mounting plates.

It's not a heavy mirror at all, but my issue was (and would be with any mounting type) getting them to adhere to the back, in a moment of clarity yesterday I removed the back and was left with a perfect smooth rear of the mirror to adhere command strips to so I think in all good, thanks for the reply though!

Any glue, mounting strips, or anything else is only as good as the surface you are sticking to. The surface there is just a fabric/card and no matter what you do you are not going to get a safe grip by trying to stick to it. At the same time, on a painted wall you are sticking to the paint, it might work or it might just pull the paint off. Even with a good surface, things like command strips will tell you they are not recommended for mirrors.

How is the backing glued onto the mirror? You will have to be very careful that you do not damage the coating on the back of the mirror as this will show on the front.

I would think french cleats as mentioned by Jack of all would work, provided you can find them deep enough to take the thickness of the mirror and the backing. They are not going to be invisible.

Edit: I just saw your reply Cyrus, be aware that the adhesive on the command strips will be sticking to the mirror backing, there is every chance the backing could come away from the glass.

Isn't the problem with the French cleat is that it still needs to attach to the back of the mirror? That's the main issue with any option there isn't anything to adhere it to.

I've had good results with command strips in the past once they are rated for the weight appropriately so let's see!

No, the cleat is fixed (screwed) to the wall and the mirror sits in a ledge for want of a better word. You would need to do some extremely accurate measuring tobe able to lift the mirror in to place though.
