Rectangular Hollow Steel instead of RSJ

    Hi folks,

We are planning to knock through from the kitchen to dining room. It’s a supporting wall and the opening will be about 3m.

The engineer has come back saying the beam should be rectangular hollow steel. I thought rsj (I beams) were the industry standard for load bearing walls.

Anyone got any thoughts or opinions on using RHS instead of an RSJ?
