Current Issues and Crises in Ireland

    Hi All,

I'm looking to get a thread going on the current and ongoing issues and crises in the Republic of Ireland and to some extent on the Island of Ireland and the wider EU (inc. UK) in relation to the Republic of Ireland.

It would be great to see what the most pressing issues in our country are at present. Where possible limit the number of issues that resonate most with you to allow for more in depth conversation on the topics.

It would also be preferable if we could converse about how these issues could be tackled and solved, and if at all possible the estimate cost and necessary resources to fix them.

Please respect one another at all times.

    I suppose I'll start it off anyway with my main issues;

    1. Housing and Homeless Crises: I've lumped these together as they go hand-in-hand. Sorting out this mess will repay itself multiple times over, it will give people a solid and stable home allowing them to gain employment or further their education and pursue a decent life, this all in itself will also help with the current mental health epidemic in the country.
    2. Cost of Living Crisis: I very well aware this is a worldwide issue and has taken place due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War; however, it is not lost on anyone that this is a crisis that has been constructed by elitist individuals and corporations out of nothing more than greed. The wholesale costs have been declining but the average person is not seeing any of these price reductions. The government has shown itself to be useless on the matter as they have done with almost everything!
    3. Refugee/Immigration Crisis: This is a particularly charged subject and rightly so; there are extreme opposing views on it, neither of which are at all helpful. I recognize the need to offer asylum to people who are fleeing persecution or death in their home countries, but it is also important recognize the general publics concerns. To completely ignore them as not only the current government has done, but so has practically the entire opposition. This will only serve to increase the support for nationalist parties, which in turn will see a rise in hate crimes and racist attacks. We need to get a grip on this issue now before it is too late. Our immigration and asylum laws need to be stricter and made tighter with absolute adherence too! The fact that even when an individual is refused asylum and issued with a deportation notice they can still be granted a right to remain is a mockery of our legal and justice system.

Feel free to add to these.

The seagull situation in Dublin is beyond ridiculous now, they are a scourge. One day I was minding my own business, enjoying my chips in the sunshine, and one fat seagull flies down and decided to just take as many chips as could fit in his disgusting mouth. I tried to grab him but he was gone with my chips in a split second. Since that day I am carrying a catapult and am always on the lookout for him.

This is an interesting one; I read an article on this issue last year and by the sounds of things it does seem to be out of control and they are quite vicious and persistent creatures.

What do you think is the cause of the sudden rise in seagulls in the city centre and more increasingly in the outer urban areas of Dublin, they have been seen as far as Ballyfermot and Clondalkin.

How do you propose we could resolve this issue (humanely of course).

And how much do you think such an approach would roughly cost.

Health Service...Waiting Lists, Trolley Crisis (Lack of capacity in A&E & hospital beds), Cancer Misdiagnosis, Childrens Hospital project and impact on other capital projects, Exodus of Healthcare staff, Mental Health facilities/services, Abuse in care homes etc.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

The conundrum of what to do when some 12 y.o. shyt decides he wants to vandalize your property.

Feral kids and their diplomatic immunity basically. And their scummy parents reaction, if you do give them a clip around the ear for dancing on your car or setting your door on fire or whatever.

Time was you'd give them a boot up the hole and that was that.

I guess the eggs are the most humane targets. And the best target in terms of bringing down the population.

Lowest unemployment in the history of the State.

A record budget surplus in the billions.

We've plenty of threads covering these issues and we do not need any more for people (often banned from relevant threads) trolling on subjects like immigration, transgenderism, the housing crisis, the housing crisis and the like. All have been done to death several times over
