PCP deposit and the SEAI grant

    Hi all,

I'm hoping someone will have the answer here because I'm sick of trying to Google the answer.

I recently received a PCP quote for an EV.

The invoice price on the car is showing as the full price (before deducting the 5,000 SEAI grant)

The dealer has then added the 5,000 grant to the deposit, bringing the deposit up to the max.

I'm considering trading in my current car.

Am I crazy to think that the 5000 SEAI grant should be deducted before the finance/deposit amount is calculated?

I dont know much about PCP but shouldn't the deposit amount be calculated on the price of the car after the grant is deducted? I should add that my car is worth far more than the max deposit without any grant being used towards it - could this be the reason for it?

I dont want to be accusing anyone of trying to pull a fast one but I also want to have all my ducks in a row and know Im getting a decent enough deal. Any help would be great.

    Thanks

yea you are crazy, the price is the price before grant. That’s what the garage are selling it for.

the deposit is the grant + cash/trade in

Thanks for that! It's gas though, looking at VW PCP example, they have deposit calculated on the price of the car after the grant has been deducted, so it makes it look like you're financing less money. Must be a marketing thing I guess.

I notice everywhere still seems to have the prices including the €5000 grant reduction.

Do you qualify for the grant if the order is in before the end of the month or do you need to take delivery before the end of the month?

once the garage has the grant approved for the car they’ve 4 months to use it. I ordered last month and they said they’ll leave the grant application until the end of June so as to have the 4 months. I was told September delivery.

You have 4 months to use it, once a vin is allocated and on the form - thats the caveat
