Hey, just wondering if anyone has purchased BMW's extended warranty?

Im looking at a 2020 330e at the moment. There are 124,000kms (77,050 miles) on the clock. AFAIK, BMW's warranty seems to be up. Is it possible to buy extended warranty where the car might be out of its initial warranty? tks

Think it needs to be within the manufacturer warranty for you to be able to extend.

It's out of battery warranty, but you may be able to get a BMW Extended Warranty, if it has an otherwise fully up to date BMW service history.

Sent them and email. Will see what comes back. Apparently, it has a full service history anyway.

Was only onto BMW few days ago looking to extend mine. You're better off just calling them for speed.

As someone else posted, your car has to be currently under warranty to get the extended warranty. They told me I wasn't required to continue to get it serviced at BMW main dealer, but whatever servicing I get they need to use BMW or BMW approved parts. They also don't need to be able to update the onboard computer; just keep all receipts with dates to prove all servicing was done on time. Though with a 2020 car, I'd be keeping it at main dealer to maintain value. Weirdly, I have kept main dealer services but they didn't ask if I'd done this - maybe they have access to this information though so knew already.

I've a 2014 5-series with over 200k km and was quoted €800 (with €300 excess and without roadside assistance) for a one year extension. Due to kms though it will only cover engine, timing chain, gearbox, and two other things I can't remember. I was tempted to just get the timing chain done at €1k but for one more year am going to go with the warranty to cover a few more bases as I have a little spare for the peace of mind. Love the car and hope to drive it for as long as possible.

Ye actually ended up ringing the UK number. Turns out, that the car is still under warranty until 15 of July. They have a grace period and he said that if I organised the warranty before October, I would still be able to get the extended warranty.

He mentioned two types, Standard Renewal and Lapsed Renewal.

Standard: with 135 excess is 730

Standard: with zero excess is 943

Lapsed: with 135 excess is 832

Lapsed: with zero excess is 1180

I think those figures are right. Line wasn't great. Would need to get all that sent in an email with exactly what is and isn't covered.

I am mostly concerned about the battery and the battery isn't covered in this. Apparently, I have to ring Customer Care to talk about that. I will ring them tomorrow. He gave me the number.

Were those £ or € values you were quoted out of curiosity? The UK crew were willing to take on the warranty? I called the Irish crew - maybe they are the same company....

Definitely get clarity on what is and isn't covered. I was happy knowing the timing chain is covered in mine cause if that goes pop it's game over.

Lets say I'm 99% we were talking euro. I mean, he knew I was in Ireland!

Ye I emailed the Irish crowd (two separate emails) and they both sent me on the UK number.

But, for me, it was just a feeling out call. I need all those quotes and whats involved in writing before I agree to anything. I mean, I haven't event test driven the car yet.

It's the same crowd covering both countries afaik so you will be diverted to the same call centre. They are basically an insurance company offering an insurance service on behalf of BMW. BMW Ireland and BMW UK being the same company.

The full warranty on offer is usually as good as you will get from a BMW main dealer on one of their approved used cars. However as the car gets older and/or mileage gets higher then the risk of mechanical failure increases for the warranty company so obviously the extended warranty cost increases too. With something as complicated as a PHEV drivetrain it's probably worth it.

If you can get the extended warranty cover from BMW on the car then it's certainly worth trying to offset some of that cost by negotiating a reduced price from the dealer selling it without their warranty. You don't need both.

Paying circa €1000 a year to extend the warranty reminds me of why I was happy to walk away from BMW ownership. I assume the actuaries calculating these premiums are doing it on the basis on the likelihood of failures.

Then you have Toyota extending your warranty for the price of an oil change. Says all you need to know about modern German engineering.

I hear you. But to be honest, I've never owned a bmw and have been driving a 2006 toyota corolla for the past ten years. So, to say I don't want to see another toyota for a long time, is an under statement ;)

😂. Well the BMW would be a big upgrade in many ways. Just don't expect Toyota levels of reliability or running costs.

Oh I know. Trying to find a balance. Thats why this search is taking so long!

Wasn't aware of this at all. That seems like a great reason to have a Toyota, particularly their Relax Warranty for servicing with them.

Looks like the car has to be under 185,000km for Relax Warranty extension, and under 160,000km for Used Car Warranty.

I've got 230,000km on my BMW and they are continuing to offer a warranty extension, albeit only for engine, timing change, turbo, gearbox, and drive train. Might look at moving to Toyota as my next motor.

A good balance would be Lexus. Toyota reliability with BMW refinement

No doubt Lexus make very good cars but they are just too much Toyota for my liking.
