Cut ethernet cable

Hi,

I need to cut ethernet cable running between house and garden shed and make part of it a bit longer to run it around an extension we are building.

I think I need a crimper and a few other things.

I'd be very grateful if someone could tell me exactly what I need and then can buy on amazon or somewhere local

You will need an RJ45 crimping tool and also you will need new ends to crimp onto the cable.

Is the cut indoors or outdoors ? Outdoors, it currently runs underneath the garden and we are getting an extension. When they are digging foundations they will more than likely hit it. It is currently in that red tubing.

Jointing cable min run is asking for trouble down the line.

Just scrap that cable, and run a new cable once the build is complete. Make sure you run it properly, either in proper duct outdoors, or run it internally.

The amount of people who buy expensive gear and cable, and then make a complete bollox of running the cable is unreal - cat 6 cable buried directly in the ground, bent into kinks, or **** botched up ducting arrangements.

Without sounding like an idiot but if it does botch up well then you can always just do it again, it's not like the foundations of the house where you are thousands of euro in damage or something.

Sorry if on the wrong thread,but fibre to premises arrive this week.was hoping to connect router to TV,that's not that old,but only has a LAN socket? What if anything can be done,or just have to go with router wireless,ie transmitting. Thanks.

Whats the question? If it has LAN use Ethernet cable, if it has WiFi you can use that. Fibre to premises does not mean your devices have to have fibre connection - after router LAN remain Ethernet/WiFi

Thanks for quick reply.My other tv has a designated ethernet marked socket. I think your saying just go ahead and plug the ethernet cable into the LAN socket,same thing.
