Hey, just wondering if these are a thing at all? I understand Kindles use e-ink and don't suffer from any glare etc in the sunshine, I was thinking it would be nice to be able to get an attachment display for my laptop to be able to use it sitting outside in the sun?

I understand the refresh rate etc isn't great, but I'd be using it for stuff that wouldn't need a high refresh rate anyway.

If anyone has found something like this for any reasonable price to Ireland, please share :)

What you need is a super bright screen. What nits is your current screen.

You can buy external e-Ink screens.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not too sure what NITS my current screen is, I had to look up nits to begin with after reading your post :D

I don't think it would suit though and I'd probably be looking at an external screen, but from what I've seen so far, they are extremely expensive!

What the model number. Look up the specs.

Most budget or mid range are 300 ish. You have to go to the top end to get brighter screens

.A matt screen is better for outside than a glossy one.

Thanks again, it seems to be 350 according to this:

I wouldn't have called my laptop budget at all though! 😯

i've tried it outside in the sun anyway and it's not really practical which is why I was thinking e-ink could be an option!

Maybe I should have said you have to go for specific screens is you want really bright.

    350 is ok. I have a Lenovo with 500.

Going to follow this, as I'd love an e-Ink secondary screen for reading documents

There are tutorials online for hacking a Kindle to do what you ask, but they seemed pretty complicated to me

I'm surprised this isn't a more common thing, but maybe it's just you and me, cormie, that want it 🤣

Yep, would be great, use much less power ,much easier on the eyes, and perfect for reading documentation.

Apple will steal this idea OP and call it "Apple Kind to the planet and your eyes secondary screen. Perfect for documents. "
