    Hey folks.

I've a flat roof in a garage that's leaked through. Checked the top of the roof and can see where some of the lining came slightly up. A lot of where the water came through appears to be rotten.

This a job I can fix myself or best left to a professional ?

Am worried its right next to electrical wires and sockets near the ground.

    Thanks!

If it's that bad, then it needs a pro to look at the timbers.

But in the meantime you can patch the lifted section with a roof sealant from a DIY store.

Also you might consider isolating the electrics pending repair.

Pull down plaster off the ceiling immediately.

It will allow enough air circulation to dry out timbers and you can make a proper assessment of the damage

Can you give an outside picture?

    Might be a DIY fix.

    Update folks.

Wood inside was in very good condition, no rot on it. Found source of leak, electrical wire from cracked roof.

was able to repair roof. Fixed up inside, just need to replace plasterboard.

    Good result!

My general advice for leaks is to do as Whizbang said. You gotta open it up to see whats what and at the very worst it will help the structural timber to dry out and save it. Leaving it with wet plasterboard on it is the worst thing to do. It will look worse in the short term but its by far the best long term approach.
