Mounting TV to upstairs chimney breast

    Hi all,

So I'm looking to mounting my TV onto the chimney breast upstairs. Our fireplace is closed over in the sitting room.

I have fitted a TV on the chimney breast downstairs no issue.

Upstairs looks to be plastered but underneath the plaster there looks to be concrete/brick.

Now I've been told that chimney breast upstairs could be adjoined to the neighbours chimney(semi detached house), and if I drill through the chimney breast it could cause smoke from neighbours fireplace to enter here.

Is this true?. I thought that would be a major safety issue having them use the same breast?

Houses were built around 2006. Celtic tiger boom houses.

Just want to confirm if they would be adjoined?

Your wall plug won’t be getting anywhere near the Flue liner ( on paper anyway), it should be no issue.

It is common for terraced or semi-d houses to share the same chimney stack be design, but in a house built in the 90’s- 00’s, they will certainly have their own independent flue, just look up and count the chimney pots coming out!

    Thanks ratracer.

Ye there is 2 chimney pots at the top of the house. So should be independent.

Screws are about 2.5-3 inches long so hopefully not long enough to go through anything.

Gonna get cracking on it tomorrow.
