    I recently posted this data download in our June contest thread but will move it to its own thread now ... note, file is too long to post, so I have broken it into two parts, 1945 to 1980 and 1981 to 2023. My intention is to create some tables of monthly data from the raw data shown now.

    Table of monthly mean temperatures at Shannon 1945-2023

    The annual average is the mean of 12 months to 2 decimals, derived from a simple arithmetic mean of the 12 monthly values. A somewhat different result can be found if using a weighted average for different length of months or the average of all 365 or 366 days. Those are not much different usually but can be a bit higher if the average of five shorter months (four with 30 days and February) is lower than the annual mean and it always bumps up the weighted average when colder than annual average February is discounted.
