Cash in hand pay

I’m a student off for my summer and did some work for a family member. However, they paid me cash in hand.

I’m fairly religious and so I don’t like this kind of thing if it’s against the law. Is there any way to do this with it being legitimate? If I declare my income and do the taxes and all that, are there any laws broken by anybody? (Including the employer, as it may be problematic to cause them to break the law too.)

    thanks!
