Chasing Ownership / Servicing Details

I saw a lovely car recently - 1 owner, looks very well looked after, but unfortunately, it doesn't have much of a service history (bar one entry at 20k miles). The car in question has the service history in its on-board computer so I suspect that it was serviced by a non-dealer. Car is now at 120k miles.

My gut would tell me that it has been looked after - but I would need more than just a feeling. The car was imported into the country after a year and has had the same owner before it was sold to a dealer (likely as a trade-in) and then passed onto this smaller dealer.

Is it a waste of time contacting the few BMW dealers in the area to see if it might have passed through their doors? GDPR limits things but there's nothing to say I couldn't ask them to pass on my details to the previous owner, if they managed to track them down?

There’s absolutely no way a main dealer is going to contact the previous owner of the car and give them your details.

I assume as much. Just curious to know if there are any ways of getting more info. Probably not

Ring your local dealer and ask them can they see if car has a full service history. You can claim to be the owner if it helps.

I got recall proof print outs and history from a dealer before for a car I owned but they won't share names and addresses for obvious reasons.

Ya I think I might take a punt and ring a few garages to see if they have any record of the car. Joe Duffy have a record of the car being in for two recalls but they never serviced it there. Can understand that too.
