Has anyone had surgery for a Deviated Septum?

I've had a lot of problems breathing over the last few years, got worse and every morning I was horribly blocked up and feeling awful. Went to the doctor then a specialist and I have a 3rd degree deviated septum. Going to go for surgery - had all the xrays and he says it's straightforward.

I keep hearing bad stories like its a terrible recovery but the doctor said I have nothing to worry about and its not painful, I just need to rinse/wash literally every hour.

Has anyone done this and what was the result? I really feel I cant breathe properly and it is affecting my health. Any experiences from those who had it done?

Yeah, my wife got it done about 10 years ago. One overnight in hospital, was sore for about 1 week after, and then she just had to mind it for the next 4 weeks or so. She said it's made a huge difference to her breathing, and I can't call her Darth Vadar anymore!!!

I had it a few years ago. I found the recovery absolutely miserable in terms of congestion and interrupted sleep, but I don't suffer from a blocked nose anymore even when I have a bad cold.
