    Hi there,

I have recently moved to a new house and the front and back gardens are a blank canvas (all grass). The space is spread between both - 825 m2 in total (split 60/40 roughly?) back garden is larger. The back garden is quite overlooked so I am looking to get:

Back garden - Some sort of fencing

Large trees/shrubs along the back fence

2 paved areas - dining and lounging

    BBQ area

    Raised planters

Shrubs - the rest can remain grass..

Front garden - A few shrubs along the adjoining fence.

I am based in North Kildare.

Does anyone have any idea of rough costs and recommendations for gardeners? Any help is appreciated - Thank you.

Unless you can afford to pay out loadsa money for a serious landscaping firm - and assuming you can find one willing to do a job less than a stately home or a business estate - I would be inclined to split the job. You might find someone who can do hard landscaping but not let them loose with shrubs and trees. Or you could find someone to do fencing, or someone who specialises in paving, you might get someone who can do all the jobs but it might be easier to find small firms who specialise.

You can do the planting yourself in due course. If you want very large trees remember you will need to be able to let a machine in. There are tree nurseries that will plant big trees for you, not cheap but nor are landscapers. Most people would recommend getting younger trees - they can still be up to 8ft tall - and organising them yourself with a bit of advice.

Thank you. I got a few quotes over the phone - all absolutely mad money! But more "Insta" type firms. My cousins brother in law used a guy they were really happy with. The got 5 quotes and seemingly he was very reasonable and did an excellent job. I had him out the other day and we thrashed around ideas and he was very knowledgeable and came up with some really good options. I am waiting to see a budget cost before I make a decision.

Good point re splitting it out with various contractors. I never really thought of that. There's huge space around the house so thankfully access won't be an issue. Thanks for your response.
