This would normally be where the OP would post a trailer for the film, but…

No trailer or publicity for the imminent Japanese release beyond a single enigmatic poster for Miyazaki’s alleged swan song (alleged, as no other man has retired more frequently). I’m not sure anybody else could pull that off, but great to see the GOAT still defying expectations :)

The film itself we’ll probably have to wait for six months or so to see based on the track record of Ghibli releases outside Japan. And I’d be very surprised if they maintain the secretive / non-existent marketing campaign beyond Japan. Still, it’s a new Miyazaki film - if anything is a must watch purely for existing, it’s that! And after years of leisurely production, hopefully this’ll be Miyazaki still doing things very much his own way.

Yeah, very strange alright that there is nothing out there. But intrigued. Think Howl then Ponyo then The Wind Rises were all his swansongs alright. I found Howl and The Wind Rises interesting rather than great but I loved Ponyo (The look of pride on her face as she pops out those legs). I'm off to Japan in October. Hopefully will get ticket to the Ghibli Museum again and pick up the storyboard book for my collection. They are wonderful things. Expensive but worth it. I have Ponyo, Totoro, Spirited Away, Porco, Kiki and Mononoke.

I will know in September if I got a ticket if someone wants me to pick one up.
