Garden wall - painting/adding trellis or plants

    Hi all,

Struggling to come up with ideas for how to brighten up / decorate our garden wall. Also ideally would like to add a trellis or something that would give us some privacy from next door neighbours. The floor on their side is raised about a foot so unfortunately we see there heads pretty much when they are in the back garden and really hate this lack of privacy. The wall is just under 6 feet currently so think we have a couple of inches to play in terms off adding height.

I think would like to paint it cream colour and add a trellis which would paint the same colour, but not sure should we first plaster the wall or anything?

would really appreciate any advice or ideas, am not very creative when it comes to this type of thing

Saddle back wall capping will add maybe 3" to the top of that.

Would you consider a light grey instead?, I think it looks more modern and fresh than cream/magnolia. My neighbour has that in their back garden and i think it looks great.

I think my years of renting have left me loathing of anything magnolia or cream colours.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

I think it would look much better if it was a plastered finish - but you could def paint and put trellis up and it would look fine just with the blocks.

I have painted my back yard a teracotta colour, have one wall fully trellised, and I love it.

Also, that looks like sandstone paving you have - if you could get a power washer and clean those slabs up it would brighten the whole place up amazingly. I have to do mine once a year, and it's incredible the difference it makes when they're clean.

Power hose the wall first and see how it looks cleaned up, painting masonry is laborious and needs repainted every few years. You won't need the wall plastered I use a HVLP sprayer for my off the clock jobs. Bare masonry 1st coat then another 3 depends on how porous the blocks are but say average 3 coats

Power hose the wall some expanding trellis which are cheap as chips and plant in some ornamental acacia bushes. They're a very spiky bush and need trimmed roughly twice a year and it grows very fast. Red acer or Japanese acer is quite nice as well. Perhaps a water feature such as a raised pond recessed into a corner and laburnum if OP likes butterflies, grows like stink and you need to keep on top of it but it get the butter flies in.
