Can I take a gap year whenever I’ve failed modules in the Spring trimesteR at UCD

I’m after completing first year of college and I want to take a gap year due to financial reasons. I know I’ve definitely failed some modules and I read in the UCD Leave of absence document that students may not take a leave of absence in order to remediate failed modules. Does this mean that if I fail a module? Can someone please explain??
