Sealing residential concrete floor

    Hi,

First time buyer decorating my recently purchased apartment, which is to say I'm skint. Because I'm short on cash and also because I'm a fan of that kind of unpolished/industrial interior design look, I would like to simply seal the concrete subfloor and use that as the floor in my living area, at least until I can afford something else in a year or two. I have two questions.

Firstly, there is a very thin coat of residual glue on the subfloor from the previously stuck-down cork sheeting. I've tried using glue removing solutions but without resorting to hiring a concrete grinder to resurface the concrete I'm finding this very hard to remove. It's not particularly sticky or anything but if I were to leave it in place would it be likely to interfere with the concrete sealer bonding with the subfloor?

Secondly, I plan to put down rugs on the areas that would get the most foot traffic but even with this measure, is it likely that there might be soundproofing issues with my neighbour below me?

    Many thanks.

    Dave
