Why would my 172 Hyundai i40 dashboard light up like a xmas tree

Driving down the road a few days ago. All lights on dashboard light up. Fuel guage and temp guage sweeping left to right. Seat belt alarm going off and lost power steering. No power loss as far as I could see. Resolved itself in a couple of minutes. I vaguely remember my old car doing something similar and I think it was something as benign as the battery or alternator. Anyone ever come across such a thing?

You really should get that checked. If it happened once it will keep happening. A diagnostic scan may well give some clue as to what went on. A dodgy alternator would be one suspicion. I would have a quick look at the battery connections. These have been well known to come loose. good luck.

Thanks for that .Will do. Unfortunately there's a massive backlog for servicing in the dealership, so i'll have to take my chance for about a month.
