Hey all, an E300 hybrid 2.1 diesel has come up for sale at a good price but has 300km on the clock but looks in fine fettle, the owner states its had around €3500 spent on it which included a gearbox service.

any owners of E300 hybrids on here? what kind of mileage do they achieve? reliable? is the Hybrid side of things reliable. finally are they fuel efficient?

    Thanks

Think hybrid system gives trouble. It's a risky buy with that mileage

I saw an E300 with 550,000km. Not sure about the hybrid side of things, but the 2.1 diesel engine is fairly reliable. My mate has done 200,000km with no issues.

I think a new model C Class hybrid is a better buy tho, they are usually for sale for similar money.

Thanks, i seem to see them on donedeal etc with highish mileage they also seem to hold there value by the looks of things, i had a non hybrid one lined up but the seller never git back to me and its now marked sold.

Yeah they wouldn’t usually be bought by people doing low mileage so when they reach 8 years old or so they tend to have upwards of 100k miles on the clock

Consumable parts are expensive like tyres brakes and suspension but I think the 2.1 diesel engine is fairly reliable. I’m actually not too sure about the reliability of the 2 litre petrol engine in the C350e tho. I’d imagine it’s fairly reliable but I was told by a Mercedes specialist that the air suspension and hybrid drivetrain can give issues

The E300h is a fine car, but I am not sure the hybrid element was well executed. There is one in the family, and I do not notice any significant fuel savings, but it is handy in traffic as it uses electric to get the vehicle moving. I would be confident that any potential fuel savings are well countered by a lower purchase cost of a regular E class.

The C and E350e are much nicer cars (I really like the interior, and you can not beat air suspension), but the electric side of things is not the best. I sold my C350e for a Passat GTE, and from an economy point of view, the Mercedes did not stand a chance.

For context; the C350e can't make a long trip without the L/100km going very high. What I mean by this is, say, Dublin to Tralee. You start with 100% battery, and you do not charge on the way. The Passat is a fundamentally better PHEV, as it would not exceed 5.5L/100km. My A4 TDI could only manage 6.4L/100km on that trip. The Merc petrol was silly thirsty, heading towards double digits.

For the C350e, I visited petrol stations for my 200km weekly commute relatively often, perhaps fortnightly in Winter. The Passat goes weeks between fills, months even now that the temp is above 12 degrees C. I was only able to get 9km from the C350e in winter, and I get 35 to 40 in the Passat. Once the weather warms up a bit, I get the entire 40km commute on EV.

Anyway, a lot of that is not related to the E300h. I would not bother, get a regular E Class if the purchase price is low enough.

9km is ridiculously low. I knew GTE’s were better in that sense since I’ve owned one but didn’t think the C350e would be that bad😂

I had an E300 Bluetec Hybrid. Search my posts and you'll find some info. Cracked inlet manifold is a very common issue on 2.1L, (mostly on vans apparently but mine had it). Air suspension was damaged by someone doing something of a favour fixing the inlet manifold, and the rear airbag was like €350 alone. Also had a minor coolant leak.

Hybrid problems tbh seem to be rare enough but would be an expensive fix of course.

Not a rattle out of mine at 250k km - exceptionally well put together interior wise.

I regret selling mine, but tbh it needed work as it was approaching 10yo, normal bits like suspension rubbers which would have been expensive.

Sounds like something very wrong with that C350e battery @bbk.

My 330e with comparably sized, but very dodgy battery (charges to 50% or so) gets 10km easily - and I once did 21km.

I did nearly 20km on a eco run, hot weather, no aircon and very gentle. Once there is aircon or heating, the range was awful. There were no battery issues. 9km was winter to be fair. GTE does 35+ in the same conditions.
