I want to add solar to my camper and to upgrade the battery to a bigger one. I'm thinking of changing out the 30 year old relay in it for new one. I picked up a solar charge controller that will also charge the engine battery as well as the leisure battery. But I've question. If I put in a smart or voltage sensing relay will the solar charge controller make it think the engine is one and activate the relay when it shouldn't?

Most of those split charge relays will detect charging current at either battery and charge both batteries accordingly.

So the alternator or solar output will go to both batteries.
