    so....looking at apartment rentals in the Canaries, and someone posted their concerns about "cctv" cameras - can someone confirm what this is - perhaps alarm sensors rather than camers?

    It looks to me like that is a PIR type camera.

    As in a passive infrared beam with a CCTV camera in it, hence the black round yolk on the upper face of the unit.
