Sorry if this has been asked and answered previously, I did a quick search but didnt come across what I was looking to find out. Currently the FTTH is coming out of the Huawei box on the wall via an ethernet cable and then connected into the frixtbox, what I am looking to know, and I assumed it could, but I cant get it to work, can I take the friztbox out of my network altogether and just put the ethernet directly into the main Deco?

The deco will still need a router as far as I know because deco is just a mesh system. Its just wifi.

Plug it in to the fritzbox.

Yes you can, I’m using deco M9 for a few years now.

Under IPTV/VLAN use ISP profile custom and set internet vlan ID to 10 and enable 802.1Q tag.

I second that. Im also a Digiweb customer and I use this setup as well, using Deco x50 (3 of)

Thanks for that, I tried those settings but no joy, light on top of Deco just stays red, do I need to change internet from dynampic IP to PPPoE aswell?

No, internet should be left as dynamic IP.

Heres a screenshot of my settings.

For Eir you can use dynamic IP but anyone else would surely need PPPoE with the correct login details.

This is same settings I used for Sky fiber and Deco x55 and it worked straight away. One thing to make sure is that the deco node that is connected to the ONT(Huawei box) should be set as the primary node in the deco app. Also that the operation mode is set to Wi-fi Router and not Access Point

Got it, thanks a million, wouldnt work at all last night, but tried it again, left it at dynamic ip and its working now. I don't think I had tried 0 for VLan priority last night, so that might have been the issue, anyway, thanks a million to all who offered help and advice here, ye are all super :)

Hi lads, back again with another issue, my network is working superbly now that I am connected directly from the ONT into the deco, however since setting up the deco with this method, my guest network no longer works for me, any suggestions on why this is the case?

Got DigiWeb installed today. 1st thing I notice is I'm not getting near the 1Gig connection. Highest I've reached is about 400mb down. I presumed with fiber that the speed stated could be reached and not like the old days where distance from a cabinet / busy periods impacted service? Remember the whole we meant "up to" 1gig expected loop hole?

I'm coming from VM 500mb in modem mode to a Deco m9 mesh system. That was pretty rock solid. I was hoping to swap the Fritzbox straight away and connect the M9 straight to the wall using the recommended settings here and check speeds again but can't get the Deco to work at all. Red light using the exact settings as above.

I've reverted to the Fritzbox for the evening and will try again over the weekend and if the speeds remain the same I'll have to get on to Digiweb regardless for their thoughts.

Got it working with the M9's eventually but had to use the Digiweb PPPoE credentials. Still not getting anywhere near the 1gb speed but the WiFi coverage is a lot better now at least.

How are you testing the speed - you'll never get the full 1Gb via WiFi - only on Ethernet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭Batesy

Through the M9 Deco app which tests the primary unit speed which is connected directly to the ont.

    Getting an average of 510/100.

I'm gonna swap the ethernet cable to a cab6a to see if that makes any odds but I'm quite happy with the performance and coverage now but it does beg the question, why pay for a 1gb plan if the line is basically maxing out at closer to 500mb.

Maybe the M9 doesn't have the hardware to run PPPoE at full tilt? What did you get with the ISP router over ethernet?

I'll have to dig the Fritzbox out of the attic at some point and test that. :)

Definitely could be PPPoE increasing the workload on the m9 but didn't expect it to impact that much.
