According to reports, Anne Marie Clements lost her job at St Mark's Primary in Renfrewshire after sharing pro-IRA posts on social media. What hope is there for young people,if and when this sort of thing happens? I thought this sort of thing only happened in Northern Ireland, and that is why the Catholic church there wants to maintain its own schools?

Quote " The Catholic Church in Scotland has handed a role preaching peace and justice to a former teacher who was banned from her job after posting pro-IRA slogans online. Anne Marie Clements was convicted at Paisley Sheriff Court in 2016 and fined £600 after sharing the "grossly offensive" messages online.

At the time, she was working at St Mark's Primary in Renfrewshire and was removed from the teaching register after the comments came to light. She has now been appointed as the new Catholic social teaching engagement officer for the National Justice and Peace Commission by the Bishops' Conference of Scotland.

The Church has confirmed it was aware of her conviction before handing her the post, according to the Scottish Daily Mail. In a statement, Archbishop William Nolan, president of the Justice and Peace Commission, said: "I welcome Anne Marie Clements as our new Catholic social teaching engagement officer. Her enthusiasm and passion for justice and peace is infectious and I look forward to the good work she will do raising awareness of Catholic social teaching and encouraging involvement in justice and peace in our schools, in our parishes and in our dioceses."

"It is understood Ms Clements took up the post at the start of May. The role involves working with schools and raising the profile of the commission in parishes and dioceses. It was previously reported that a court heard Ms Clements, who called herself 'Provo Princess', made the comments in November and December 2015 on Twitter."

She posted a picture of a masked man carrying a rifle with the caption: "When you're having a republican kind of day." The Celtic fan also called Dutch side Ajax "orange b******s" and referred to herself as being in "Ronnie's Fenian Band" in reference to former Hoops boss Ronnie Deila. Posting another image of a masked gunman, she wrote: "Am already in this squad but."

A spokesman for the Catholic Church in Scotland said: "Spent convictions would not and should not be considered when making an appointment." The IRA was estimated to have killed over 1,700 people during the Troubles, around half of all deaths related to the conflict and the most by any single group."

These are events in a foreign country and nothing to do with Irish current affairs, you need to go ride your hobby horse in a more appropriate forum.

A teacher posting slogans glorifying and praising the PIRA is not too bad to have as a person involved in educating kids? Might be the norm where you are from but is it right, when you think about it? Should she be the one appointed to a post preaching "peace and justice"? Makes you wonder what kind of justice she is preaching when we all know the type of justice her beloved pira gave the likes of Jean McConville and thousands of others?

Events in a foreign country? The threads in this politics forum are from USA, Britain, Scotland etc
