Maybe moving it to Sundays would make sense? Give him a lie on, fly over to London in the evening and do it on a Sunday morning? Or they could move the show to Belfast which is only about 90 minutes from Dublin?

The BBC has confirmed that the show will be coming from its Belfast studios from September.

The BBC doesn't have a studio in Dublin.

It can easily be done from the RTE studios if needs be, in fact it can be done with a tieline and a laptop from his hotel room if he really wants it to be. So no need to 'leave it till Sunday'

You're really not getting this are you? Your point about moving it to Sundays. Leaving Belfast aside where it will be done. The show regardless of who it is for can be done in an RTE studio (if he makes that part of his deal) or any other studio for that matter. Radio stations using studios in different countries is more common than you think.

I presume they'd have to pay RTE for the use of one of their studios though? Belfast seems to be a sensible option here.

They might not want to facilitate his broadcasting from anything other than a BBC studio because of the precedent it sets. If they let Patrick Kielty broadcast from a hotel room in Dublin or an RTE studio, they'll be beset by other presenters wanting to choose their own studio locations. Besides, they lose a certain amount of control over their own radio show if it's coming out of RTE. Especially if something goes wrong. All in all, it's cheaper to just hire a driver and a car and bring him up to Belfast after the LLS is over.

They have to pay for staff cover at least; and I know that they have (very) occasionally used Dublin ILR studios when RTÉ could not cover.
