Oil burner beside oil tank

    Hi all,

the metal oil tank (kerosene) and the oil burner are beside each other in the shed. Am i right in saying that this is illegal and that "God Forbid", the house in uninsurable if there was to be an accident. Is this right?

What is the best option, drain tank and replace with a new one outside the shed, possibly cheaper than moving the boiler?.

The house is over 30 years old and I think it's been like this since the house was built.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Generally oil tanks should be located outside, unless they are in a room which was specifically constructed for the purpose.

Oil tank and boiler in the same room is a bad idea, and I would be looking to get the tank out of there as soon as possible. If it is 30 years old, it’s likely time to replace it also.

On the insurance query, it is unlikely to interfere with the validity of the policy as long as you accurately and comprehensively answer any questions put to you by the insurer at the inception of the policy.
