Cancelled NCT

Booked an NCT in January, earlist test date was today at 3.30, when I got to the centre I was told it was cancelled due to operational reasons, I checked my email and at 12.30 TODAY they did email me about cancelling my appointment (I didn't see the email until 3.30) am I entitled to a free test due to this? There was no method on the email that they sent, just that I will get a refund for today's test.

    Thanks in advance.

I doubt it. Although its an inconvenience you were informed of the cancellation and will be refunded. Probably best calling the customer service number and see what they say

3 hours notice is a bit short, and had already a 1/2 booked off, hopefully I won't have to wait another 4 months for a test date.

Are they still refusing point blank to give any free tests? I went on the priority list 7 weeks ago and haven't heard a word from them. I've called a couple of times to see what's going on and I'm just being told they should be in touch soon with a test date. It's absolutely crazy that they still can't get their act together.

I will phone them tomorrow, but the email I received said that Ill get a refund and to book a new appointment on nct.ie, nothing about a free test.

Im curious to know what criteria they use to decide which cars get tested and which cars get cancelled, the centre was testing cars when I arrived, my car is 13 years old and the test expired in January, so would have thought it's more likely to have defects rather than a newer car.

I seriously doubt there's any rhyme or reason to it. They likely just cancel appointments with no criteria applied other than the time the test is scheduled for.

What's the reason for the current NCT waiting times, not enough testers?

Yes seems to be the excuse used, they have started to recruit from The Philippines and Spain. If you have a 10 year old car you are probably better to be booking your next test 9 months in advance directly after you pass.

Update.....Car tested and passed yesterday, no charge for test, due to short notice of cancellation.
