    looking at hiring a car in France and prices are very expensive. Found a great deal on Avis.co.uk site. It’s literally half the price on Irish or French sites. Wondering if it’s too good to be true? Also anyone know how much they hold on your credit card?

    Have you read the Ts & Cs? The most important one is probably the amount of the excess on the standard cover. If it's in the thousands, you are probably dealing with a cowboy operator who will force you to buy the cover that he offers when you show up at the rental desk. And the saving you think you're making based on the price quoted will be up in smoke.

    What I'm getting at is that Avis UK may have taken the booking but they could be handing the business to a local franchisee who will screw you.
