I've been quoted €300 for a wheel bearing in Dublin. It's a 2016 reg. Is this reasonable?

No it's not, had wheel bearings done on a previous gen A4, which is effectively the same car underneath, cost me €140 for drivers front, passenger front went a few months later and the garage said it was a PITA and charged me €160 for the extra time.

This was back in 2018 though. Simpler times.

€300 is outrageous for a wheel bearing.

I just looked up a YT video on it being done, it's a bolt on bearing, remove pads, calliper bracket and disc, remove outer CV bolt and knock the joint out of the hub, remove strut bolt or the ball joint bolts one or the other, unscrew the 4 wheel bearing bolts and hammer it off. Replacement is the reverse of removal.

That's not €300 worth of work. Unless I'm missing something.

Possibly a main dealer price as labour could be high per hour ?

Thank you both. No it's not main dealer! I'll keep searching.

Any recommendations for a mechanic in south Co. Dublin?

I replaced one on a caddy 2014 a few weeks ago myself, the part was €70 and it took me while watching a youtube video under an hour to do. €300 is ridiculous to be honest. Experienced mechanic could do it under half an hour.

Personally I go onto site like Mikegarge and price up part of good quality one like skf ect and add hour labour . Recently I change front wheel bearing on VW cc 2013 and part was only like 50 euro for skf branders wheel bearing which would be high quality one from mister auto . 300 sounds very expensive
