Dead phone with data locked in.

My Huawei P20 lite died overnight a few weeks ago. It just locked completely. No power, no nothing. I've tried everything, been to local phone shops, even contacted Huawei (no I didn't back-up my data with Huawei, never got round to it.....)

All my photos are in there, all my messages, contacts, WhatsApps etc.

It just won't switch on, and all the supposed solutions start with the same thing....'first, switch the phone on'

Surely there must be a way to retrieve my photos at least? My wife passed away last February, and the precious pics of her last bucket list holiday are lost unless I can find solution.

Could be the screen itself is dead but phone is fine. Do you know any event that might have brought about the problem, for example was it dropped, exposed to water etc. Did you have a SD card in the phone, possible some or all photo's would have copied to this.

Have you tried connecting the phone to a PC/Laptop via the USB charge cable to see if anything is showing up?

Try another charger must be 2amp, 5 volt output or .plug phone into a pc thru usb port ,wait 5 minutes ,does a device show up in start menu, my computer , look on your google account, some photos may have been uploaded to google drive

You ,ll need a usb c or a usb micro to usb a male cable

I presume the p20 has a usb c or usb micro type connection

The battery maybe dead ,the battery can be replaced. Google Huawei p20 battery replace how to

It uses. A 3400ma battery you d need to go to a phone repair shop to get it replaced if battery is dead there's no way to charge phone hence it cannot be powered on

or maybe you need a new charger

Click the apps grid in the top right

Choose photos for the apps grid

What did the phone shop say they done/checked?

Brilliant, typing 25 letters and symbols is much easier then my suggested 2 clicks, my way is also easier to remember and gives access to other google apps that might come in handy

the photos that were uploaded to google drive or google photos will be there it depends on settings on the phone, was it set to upload contacts, photos etc

you could try another charger it must have output 5 volt 2amps usb c connector

plug in charger wait 30 to 60 seconds press power button screen should come on and show charging icon animation charging mode

some phones require at least a few per cent power in battery in order to turn on ,eg 3- 5 per cent power

my phone stopped working 3 years ago, cant be charged , i just bought a new phone , at some point phone batterys stop working,

any important photos i upload to google drive phones last 2 to 3 years

you could go to a phone shop and get a new battery installed

i,m not a tech expert, the phone battery could be dead or the charger is not working,

you,d need a usb c male to usb a male cable to plug it into a pc or laptop usb interface

Why is my Huawei phone not charging when plugged in?

Device charging and fix battery Video | HUAWEI Support UK

Your phone might not charge because the charging port is distorted or obstructed. Physically inspect the charging port of the device. Look carefully for any lint, debris or dirt that might block the port and remove them with compressed air or an ESD safe brush.

Charge it for a bit, then press and hold power and volume up for up to a minute.

Check for fluf in the charging port - sometimes it prevents the plug fitting in all the way - use a wooden toothpick and be careful not to damage the gold wires inside the port.

Or use a wireless charger...if your phone supports it - deals sell them sometime for couple euros - ikea have them also.

if the data is really valuable to you - dont do anything else - take to a good reputable repair place (I've had several bad experiences with repair shops - but one good experience with Mactivate - very careful work - I'd recommend them)

    - if they cannot fix it - they can advise data recovery places which will get the data without fixing the phone but those places can cost many hundreds of euros.
