    Morning folks.

I have been using the RCC m48 moderator for some time and found it very good

Recently I bought a new Rifle with a 17x1 thread and I had to change my mod. I was limited to what I could buy because of the thread type. So I took a home a 17x1 blaser mod .30 cal. Its a lovely mod but it's louder than my old rcc.

Does the bore diameter make the difference? If I got the same mod in a 6.2mm or 6.5mm would it be quieter. I got the 30 cal because of availability issues.

Im guessing for m your post you are using something in a 6mm cal?

If that is the case, yes it will be louder if you are using a 30 cal can, simply because of bore dia, as the gas has more "room" to escape out the bigger bore in the can behind the bullet as it travels thru.

I always use the 30 call mod on both my 308 and 223.

    Yea I'm using a .243.

I noticed the 30 cal can has a much louder crack than the old moderator that was specifically for the .243

Here's something I came across when researching the topic:

"Radial Clearance (bore size compared to calibre) was the single most significant factor impacting sound attenuation – the same moderator with a lower radial clearance out-performed the larger bore model by over 6dB reduction"

First they came for the socialists...

A .243 specific mod will out perform a 8mm mod whacked on the end. can you exchange?
