Want to get about $500 cash and wondering where is the best place to get this in Ireland.

Previously got it “commission free” from an post - but realized was probably fleeced on the exchange rate.

Not travelling to the US and atms not an option, will bring more money in Euro but want to get some dollars.

Id say credit union via fexco.

You will probably find there is only a modest difference, certainly under 5% and likely to be much less. Phone / walk into a few banks / bureaux des change and ask them on the day.

You'll waste more time than it's worth running around looking to save €5.

Just go to the post office.

Their rates are not too bad

Go back to the PO. The difference in rates is minimal and not worth it for e500 At any bank you will have to order the currency you want and wait 3-5 working days for it

No 1 currency exchange ( think thats what they are called ) are the cheapest for getting cash , order online and then collect in shop .

If you don't live near one then next best option is probably the bank .

Post office is normally easiest but the rates there aren't great .

yes most banks hold no foreign currency as they can lose on exchange rates if rates change dramatically and lots of foreign currency is just hanging around in their safe.

You have to order in advance now, and pay upfront.

The bureau de change across from the spire has no commission and a better exchange rate than the Banks, but for 500 you're probably talking bus fare in the difference.

Post office would be my choice, they look for photo ID for sums over €200 due to money laundering legislation.
