    Hi

i have 3 pressure treated garden fences that we’ve had 4 years. Cleaned them last summer and applied 4 coats of Cuprinol Fence paint. During the year there’s been a decent leak of sap/resin from all knots. Any idea how to prevent this or once they’ve gotten this far will they just stop or continue seeping indefinitely?

Normally these knots are treated before the wood is painted by applying a knotting sealer to prevent the seeping.

If you're going to do it after the fact then you need to sand the knot back to the bare wood and then apply the knotting and then repaint. But yeah, they will eventually stop once the volatile chemicals dry out of the resin.

Thanks a million, if sanding back is required then so be it, I was going to give them another coat of paint anyway to freshen up. Thanks a million for the reply
