There are, but a naked man taking a walk down a busy City Centre shopping street is clearly mentally ill and although he may never have been in any sort of treatment before, I would guess that he probably has and that points to the absolute **** show that is mental health care in this Country.

So it is a very serious incident and issue and hopefully one that won't be treated cruelly like the Dara Quigley incident mentioned above.

Perhaps a German enjoying a bit of Freikoerperkultur? Was a bit taken aback in Berlin when I saw people waltzing around in certain parks as God made them, but it's an accepted part of life there.

That said, he's a long way from Berlin, and this mostly likely a man having a bit of a mental health day so to speak.

The gent filming the video seemed awful concerned that his girlfriend might have copped a look at yerman's gearbox.

Freikoerperkultur does not extend to the Kurfürstendamm or the other shopping streets and urban malls of Berlin. There are City ordinances to permit naturist activity where you see it and they are pretty rigorous.

So one mentally ill guy on Henry Street is hardly the same thing.

Generally, yes I know it's bad form to wander Unter den Linden in the nip. Quite a bit of wang on display at gay events such as Pride festival in Berlin though. Viel wurst, gross und klein. Didn't seem to bother the polizei all that much.

Our subject on Henry Street was quite possibly was off the meds, but it could also have been an inadvisable stag dare or something stupid. He didn't seem like he was completely out of it. Who knows.

This thread actually piqued my interest, so I consulted our friends at the Irish Naturist Association on the legality of parading yourself through a public thoroughfare in flagrante delicto. Curiously, the old law was struck down in 2014 by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional, and we got a new formulation.

It would appear that it's only illegal if someone is intending to cause alarm, distress or fear. As yet untested in court. The cameraman may have been all three of those things, or none. Perhaps alarmed I suppose, but he also seemed to be doubly annoyed that the man was not merely naked, but had the temerity to be both naked and foreign at the same time. Would be interesting to see what a court would do with the circumstances. The intention of the naked man is what the court would be looking at.

There was a fundamental change in the law on public nudity following the enactment of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017. Section 46 (1) of the Act says: “A person who exposes his or her genitals intending to cause fear, distress or alarm to another person is guilty of an offence.”

This new Section replaced the old law on public indecency set out in Section 18 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1935 which stated: “Every person who shall commit, at or near and in sight of any place along which the public habitually pass as of right or by permission, any act in such a way as to offend modesty or cause scandal or injure the morals of the community shall be guilty of an offence…” This Section was declared to be unconstitutional by the High Court in 2014 and is now null and void.

The new law, which is similar to the law on public nudity England and Wales, states that for an offence to be committed the person exposing him/herself must intend to cause fear, distress or alarm to another person. In other words being naked in itself is not illegal under this law. Although the new law has not yet been tested in the Courts, it is our opinion that this law, in effect, legalises naturism and protects genuine naturists from any threat of prosecution as a result of being naked in a public place. We strongly encourage all naturists to use discretion and common sense when practising naturism.

As you say we shouldn't jump to conclusions. It could be somebody mentally unwell or a naturist. Hell it has not even been confirmed if it is a male or female penis that the person possesses.

Just read the Act again. Quite extraordinarily, it would appear we have very pro-nudity laws in Ireland. On my reading, as long as a person is minding their own business and not doing anything sexual, walking down the street completely starkers is perfectly legal. I wouldn't have thought that at all, but there we go.

Dunno why people are jumping to conclusions this dude has mental health issues, just shows what a prudish nation we still are, so unacceptable to be starkers you must be mad….. Being honest the naked guy didn’t say or do anything more than walk down the street starkers, whereas the cameraman was verbally abusing him shouting and roaring at him and telling him to go back to where he came from. That was actually worse IMHO.
