Liver Issues Maybe

Right so I thought given the likely cause of my malady here would be a good place to post it...anyway lets get started, I'm interested if any people on here have experienced similar and how it progressed or didn't.

On and off for the last 2-3yrs I have been feeling fullness or pressure under my right ribcage, I'm fairly sure its my liver. Followed up with GP etc I had ultrasound (and lots of bloods) and they said it was mildly enlarged, could feel the edge and that it was fatty. They didn't seem too concerned and aside from my Gamma GT my AST/ALT etc is in line. Anyway fast forward last 3 months its more consistent, and after a big session feels almost like the liver is going to burst. I noticed that cutting out beer for 3 days helped like I would have still be drinking similar units just zero beer, which makes me think it could maybe be the bowel not the liver. Just had more bloods done, GGT raised bit it would be a day after I had a drink or few, so nothing to say liver function has got a lot worse than two years ago when had the US.

So question is does this ring a bell with anyone, I clearly drink too much but I do try to offset with EPL, Glutathione, B vits etc in some size, I lost 15kg over the last 6mths but the chest pressure got worse, will probably go for more imaging just to check nothing has got worse etc. But appreciate any thoughts aside from the "drink less ya drunk kernt" variety.

I have a long history of over indulgence in food and alcohol. Lockdown weight gain saw me hitting plus 20 stone. Have had gout for 20 years and raised uric acid cholesterol etc. started to feel the symptoms you described mid last summer. I would get very itchy hands at night as well.

I cut back on alcohol and it reduced. Cut alcohol in November and then symptoms disappeared dropped about 30 pounds. I also saw a consultant on the gout problem he explained uric acid raised also makes it hard to reduce cholesterol. Am taking alipurinol daily to reduce uric acid and cholcicine to prevent gout while acid is clearing. <360 uric acid means you won’t get gout. I got a CA19 blood test as well just for peace of mind on the liver.

I’ve also gone gluten and dairy free in the past two weeks to see if I can break the weight plateau. I was drinking Guinness zero as an alternative but serious flatulence with it. Also for year if I slipped and ate pats or fresh brown bread I’d get boils. So am finally zeroing in on wheat diary and sugar. So far in two weeks I feel calmer less anxious and skins much clearer - stomachs a more calm place. Lots of chickpeas - all types of beans vedge and so on - lots of herbal teas to reduce tea and coffee.

The thing I’ve learned is diets fall for most people. Your system is trying to get you back to your top weight - socialising and convenience living advertising etc is all providing hurdles. I was 12 stone at 19 - got a car and money started partying big no exercise- I’ve been 15-18 stone ever since periodic boom bust fitness diet stuff. Late 40s lockdown booze and a munchmania disaster sees me hit 21 stone.

I believe I digest food quite slowly so I’m evolving towards a lifestyle format that works. I’m trying to eat small portions which are easy to digest, two weeks of dairy gluten free my appetite has plummeted, bloating disappeared . Stomach should be one third air , water and food after meals to best support digestion. Anyway hope something in there helps connect some dots.

have a look at Ayurveda and Kapha dosha digestion lots of interesting stuff there https://www.joyfulbelly.com/Ayurveda/article/How-to-Balance-Kapha-Digestion-Manda-Agni/10

    Interesting thanks for sharing,

I'd says dropping the booze would help but I'm sure something else would replace it, and wouldn't be Guinness Zero ha, my idea is to cut down slowly with some of the small gins and rums that are hyper aromatic so you only need 5ml instead of 50 etc.

What I find interesting is the liver thing is much worse when drinking beer, I love my local (and my local loves me I'd say hahah) I'd be in a position I can go for a pint most days so I could be in there 5-6 days a week for a couple maybe a pint and 2 schooners nothing mad but steady like. It's a free house so different beers all the time sort of thing. Anyway If I give it a few days off its less of an issue so yeah I do wonder if its a gluten or similar kinda thing. I'm taking a rake of essentiale max worth looking up if any concerns on the liver the stuff is magic.

My wife would get small bumps on her skin if she eats too much gluten, but I never thought I had an issue. Something to look into perhaps.

No interest in diets either they are a road to nowhere, its all about lifestyle changes, drugs can help nudge you in the right direction but eventually the habits need to change or nothing will change.

    Best of luck with it.

I imagine it's not something in the beer making the problem worse but just the bloating itself putting pressure on your organs from inside.

I know you don't want to talk about not drinking but when I gave up smoking I didn't feel like I was in an acute crisis but I treated it like it was and that got me over the line. I think you need to do the same instead of wasting time skirting around the problem.
