I just switched to eir and I'm guessing they moved me to Voice over Broadband as my phone line stopped working and worked when I put it to the router and the router itself shoes details. it kind of sucks that I always need my modem up to make a call or cant make calls when the power is off. They hid the fact they were going to do this well, whats the consequences or options and I assume they wont switch it back. I imaging losing my number at some point if I did't stick with them now or I'd have to pay a bucket load just to have my normal line again.

So sorry my friend as I am rarly on this board. It was fine the last two years, once or twice the power went out but mobile was enough to report and get updates. It was not a big deal but I did discover that 999 did not work right of the box and at a bad time to discover it, during and emergency, again had to use mobile. I totally forgot or didn't know 112 might have worked. It really a mute point now unless somebody needs it for dedicate purposes and there is nothing that can't be put over the digital line and it will likely be the state of things since fiber to the home is now available in my areas, there is no copper so it will happen to everyone sooner or later.

Its inevitable. The copper landline is now a remnant of the past and probably a hinderance in the all digital switches. And a cost factor more importantly. I think it may still exist in fttc pockets but it wont for much longer. All VOIP.
