Has anyone managed to sucessfully do a Makita Battery Redemption through the UK site? I've just ordered a new tool and it comes with the battery and charger, so qualifies for the redemtion, but the UK site says it'll only post to the UK... I'm thinking of using an AddressPal account. I got it from an Irish site, so may not be eligable at all...

You can add to your problem that its a battery which I suspect will be labelled as such (addresspal won't take them if they know what it is) then the T&C's of the offer you have to tick says

The offer is only open to UK residents, a valid UK postal address must be provided.

A bit scummy of Makita as the UK site covers Ireland but you could point that out to them (phone or email on the promotion page).

Did the Irish site you bought from say anything about the offer?

Irish site wasn't promoting the offer. I'll have to submit my Irish receipt, give the UK PayPal address and probably someone else's phone number. There is an option to choose a site radio instead of a battery, so I'm might try that to cut out another layer of difficulty...

The way I see it, it's worth chancing my arm. I do an update. I'll need to wait for the tool to arrive to use the serial number...

There was a similar DeWalt Promo last year. I got a free drill (that I really didn't need) when I bought my wife a strimmer. I was a bit dubious at first as I'd only spotted the promo advertised on UK sites but when I applied I found DeWalts dot ie site worked fine and the drill was sent out from Ireland.

I said there's contact info on the redemption link page so contact them and tell them you didn't have that trouble when you bought DeWalt stuff - last years promo https://www.powertoolworld.co.uk/blog/dewalt-redemption-promotion-get-a-free-drill-with-landscaping-kits so why would you stay loyal to a brand that doesn't care about its Irish customers.

I'm getting really peed off with Makita lately. The quality is fading in their power tools but this is interesting about not being able to redeem when living in Ireland.

On that I've found out through getting tools fixed under warranty that it's a company in Antrim does the repairs for Makita so maybe they don't like the whole customs hassle of delays.

I recieved the delivery yesterday... Filled out the claim form yesterday evening and received a comfirmation email this moring to say my redemption is approved... It does say, once you begin the process, that it is only open to UK residents... But, mine was accompanied by an Irish invoice... It did say it'd ship within 35 days, but I'd imagine it'll be sooner than that.

I chose to go with the site radio in the end, I've 5 batteries at this stage, which may or may not be overkill for a DIYer.

You're probably right but I'm in the UK again soon and I'll be watching Amazon for any well priced DeWalt batteries - 8 is not enough :-) If there's any offer on a FlexiVolt battery (54V/18V) I might spend even more money. My problem is family use the batteries all the time in torches and lanterns so I'm always recharging them.

Best to get family members onto a different battery platform... means they can't borrow your tools. Whenever someone asks for my tools, I just let them know that my dad borrowed the strimmer and has the batteries too... otherwise they just go missing and live in other peoples houses.

Do you have any problems getting the batterys back with customs or such? Flight or ferry?

I remember buying some makita batts on ebay one time before Brexit and the seller advised to courier them over as royal mail can be a bit of a problem with batterys apparently

Bought some DeWalt replacement batteries from Amazon.de. Amazon.uk would not deliver here. After I got them delivered from Germany I got emails from Amazon.uk offering delivery to Ireland. Must be a change of policy.

Show us the link to DeWalt batteries that Amazon.co.uk will deliver here :-)

Currently you'd be lucky to find any genuine DeWalt batteries sold and fulfilled by Amazon let alone any that will deliver here.

    Dewalt x 2 DCB182 18V 4Ah XR Li-Ion Battery (Pack of 2), 18 V

Also compatible batteries by other manufacturers.

I have not bought any from UK since I already have what I want from Germany.

I've bought those in the past, they haven't been available on Amazon for the last month, they and every other genuine DeWalt XR battery are on my "Buy when in UK" wish list. I was in the UK last week and checked daily. Not one genuine DeWalt XR battery was available (except the Bluetooth ones) from Amazon. OK so a couple of exceptions, there was one 4Amp XR battery available on Prime from Amazon themselves but that had a 1-2 month delivery window so I didn't think that was going to work out for next day delivery while I was in the UK. Another that is only available if I use a UK address but I discounted it as it was full recommended retail price and was no advantage to buy over walking into a UK screw fix. There were also some others that were Prime but not sold by Amazon so avoided them in case of delivery time issues (only a few days in UK) and they won't deliver to Ireland anyway, again if you put in an Irish address they are Currently not available.

I did get a couple more batteries in the end as on the way home I popped into a random Toolstation outlet (UK competition for screwfix) and found they had a special offer on the 4Amp XR batteries at £50 each https://www.toolstation.com/dewalt-xr-18v-battery/p21058

Thanks for all that information. It is good to know. I am not in the market for a lot of batteries but I am sure others will find it it very useful too.
