Sky+ HD Series Link issues

Hey lads, a bit of an unusual issue that I just can't find any info online about other than the usual plug it out and plug it back in. Some backstory first, my dad has Sky+ but the connectors that the satellite leads plug into failed during covid when the travel restrictions were in place so we couldn't travel to get a new box. Luckily the neighbours next door had an old Sky+ HD box so we took that off them and it all seems to work fine with his package etc. Its had a few hiccups over the last couple of years, but usually nothing major and they usually sort themselves out (the TV guide is often labeled wrong and will have the incorrect name for a show sometimes so it ends up recording the wrong thing).

However, in the last week its decided not to bother with any of his Series Links on RTE 1. The only thing he watches is the soaps so thats all he has on series link on a regular basis other than the odd drama series. I tried to record the next upcoming episodes of Fair City and Eastenders for him, but it wont let me series link them. There was an existing series link for Fair City under the Scheduled tab in the planner, but it wasn't giving a date and instead just said "next series" or "next episode" or something like that. Its missed all of the ones from this week, although its seemed to have caught all the Eastenders ones. I've just manually recorded them for now. Its just odd. Anybody experience anything similar or know how to get around it? Sky only suggested restarting the box and trying to series link it then, but I've tried that and no joy. Its a right pain because my dad isn't tech savvy at all and has no means to watch on the RTE player (and wouldn't know how anyway).

The box is probably reached its EOL = end of life, go on adverts.ie and get a second hand one, not too expensive.

Sky are now pushing sky q so dont give a monkeys about sky +. Look here to see what software version should be on box

That series link is a pain as it can be the broadcaster as well. With an old box it can be a multitude, hdd, cables, power, lnb, bad connections, is it powered off completely at night.

A planner rebuild can also help but you need a lot of patience.

There may be nothing wrong with your box. I have SkyQ and my good wife asked me tonight, why wasn't Fair City recorded ? It has been on series link for years. Checked the box, sure enough, no recordings, went to set it up again and it will only let me record once, series link not working, unplugged box and rebooted, no joy. Strangely, it will series link most other programmes, but not Fair City. I think it's some break in the link between RTE and Sky. If it persists I'll ring Sky and threaten to walk, that normally gets them to do something.

Yes this is something I mentioned in another thread about fair city. There is a pretty regular breakdown these days with rte's series links on sky. currently can't series link fair city, 9 o'clock news, strike. It's something that appears to be happening more often and for longer each time it happens.

All my usual programmes on RTE1 won't series link on my Sky Q box & reading the thread on Kin from RTE 1 last night the problem seems to be widespread

Series link on RTE 1 programmes seems to be back in action again. Fair City etc has series link again.
