Pre-purchase van inspection necessary if recent CVRT?

    Morning all :)

Buying a 2017 van privately, has gone through CVRT a few weeks ago. I did a few checks myself but I am no mechanic. Do you think a pre-purchase van inspection (from Best Drive mechanics) is necessary given the recent CVRT?

    Many thanks.

I’d get it done from a proper mechanic who can come out and check the engine and give the van a test drive. I’d imagine Best Drive would just do a CVRT style inspection?

    Thanks for the reply!

Yeah that was my thinking; am finding it very difficult to get a mechanic to come out, most seem to be snowed under that they don't offer that service anymore. Also I live in Mayo and there are no dedicated car/van pre-inspection companies that operate around here to my knowledge. I could ring Best Drive tomorrow when they're open and ask how they differ from a CVRT inspection.

I wonder is a fresh CVRT entirely sufficient on it's own though to ensure mechanical quality of the van..?

A CVRT, like an NCT, is just a basic check of the brakes, suspension, lights, etc. It doesn’t check the engine or gearbox.

I’d imagine being a van its high mileage?

    Thanks again for the reply!

It's got 186,000km on it. I am converting it to camper as I have to travel for work and accommodation is costing me a small fortune. I'll probably look to sell in 5 years or so.

Do you think I should try and go for something with less mileage in that case?

Would be hard enough to find a 6 year old van with less mileage than that. And it will cost you.

Turns out the best drive inspection is comprehensive enough; includes engine, gearbox and the likes.

Thanks for all your replies bud, greatly appreciated. Legend!
