Turn off water from hot water tank

    Hello everyone,

I live in a house that has a gas boiler downstairs and a hot water tank upstairs (there is a pipe leading to the attic leading to some machine, I have no clue what it is…)

I need to fix a toilet upstairs that won’t flush, so I need to turn off the Water main downstairs ( I know where it is). But I’m guessing I also need to turn off the hot water coming from the boiler, because there will be water in the hot tank, and it will probably come out when I take toilet tank out (or will it?)

Do you know how to turn off the hot water from the boiler, I rather not empty the tank because it might have hair pockets and it will be a nightmare to get ride of them… it happened in the past…

There is a switch on the wall but would just turn off the boiler tank not cutting the water supply.

By the water tank, I could only see one valve you can turn, it says “Reg Valve” I’m not sure it the right pipe to touch.

could someone enlighten me on how the turn off the water from the water tank.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi!

All toilet cisterns should be fed off a cold water storage tank, typically in the attic and not from the incoming mains or the boiler supply. All toilets should also have an isolation valve fitted either on the pipe at the back of the cistern itself or in the attic coming out of the bottom of the water-tank. All you need to do is look for that valve in those two locations, do not turn off any valves for the boiler!

If you're unsure, please take photos.
