Utility upgrade - shelf spec to support washing machine

We are upgrading our small utility and plan to raise the existing floor mounted washing machine and tumble drier up say 500mm or so. Have sourced the various units from the Ikea Pax range but just need to strength the support shelf for the washing machine. I'm thinking 18mm plywood with the Ikea 18mm particle board on top. On the plan the shelf will be circa 60cm x 60cm. Can provide support battens on 3 sides or would angle brackets be better ? What would be the best type of ply to source for this ? I presume 18mm ply combined with the 18mm Ikea shelf is stronger than say a 28mm Ikea particle board worktop ? Thoughts please on this any other aspect of a small utility refurb.

Id be inclined to use worktop as it will offer some protection against water when you are unloading machine etc
